Getting Started with Dillon – Your Complete Guide

Are you a beginner or unsure about what you need to start welding with Dillon? It's easier than you think! Dillon's patented low-pressure technology makes gas welding both safer and more economical. To get started, you essentially need three things: the Dillon torch itself, a twin hose set with approved safety valves, and gas cylinders for oxygen and acetylene.

Below you can see exactly what is included in a complete system, whether you choose modern gas cylinders with built-in regulators or classic, external regulators.

Option 1: For use with built-in regulators in the cylinders (Easiest & fastest)

What you need to buy:

  • Dillon Torch & Tips: Choose either our Dillon Standard Kit or the more comprehensive Dillon Pro Kit to get all the welding tips and cutting attachments.
  • Twin Hose (Oxygen/Acetylene): Approved, high-quality gas hose in your desired length.
  • Flashback Arrestors: Mandatory for your safety! These are mounted directly onto the cylinders to prevent flashback and gas backflow.
  • export Hose Connectors / Threaded Fittings: Our 3/8" hose connectors, which mount directly to your flashback arrestors at the regulator.
  • Gas Cylinders (Oxygen - Acetylene): Buy or rent these from your local gas depot with built-in flow regulation.

Option 2: For use with classic regulators (Traditional Gas Cylinders)

Do you already have older, standardized gas cylinders in your workshop or plan to buy classic cylinders? Then you build a traditional system where you screw external pressure regulators directly onto the cylinder valves.

What you need to buy:

  • Dillon Torch & Tips: Dillon Standard Kit or Dillon Pro Kit.
  • External Regulators (Pressure Gauges): One for acetylene and one for oxygen. Since Dillon welds at an extremely low pressure (0.5 bar), it is important that you use high-quality regulators that can be adjusted precisely to low pressures.
  • Twin Hose & Flashback Arrestors: The same approved safety valves and hoses as in Option 1.
  • Hose Connectors / Threaded Fittings: Our 3/8" hose connectors, which mount directly to your flashback arrestors at the regulator.

Additional Equipment:

  • Welding Goggles: An absolute must to protect your eyes from the intense light and any sparks during operation. Make sure to use goggles with the correct shade rating for gas welding, such as our Cobalt welding goggles.
  • Welding Rods & Flux: We highly recommend our complete Rod & Flux Package. It is the ultimate starter kit containing rods in various metal grades along with matching fluxes for cast iron, aluminium, and stainless steel – everything you need to start practicing and repairing right away!

⚠️ Important Information about Regulators:
We do not currently sell separate pressure regulators in our webshop. However, these can be easily purchased or rented from your local gas depot or nearest welding specialist supplier when you get your gas cylinders.
