As early as 1982, we at Scandria AB introduced this unique machine to the Nordic market – a torch that for over four decades has challenged and changed the perception of what gas welding can actually achieve.

The Visionary from Australia
During the 1970s in Adelaide, Australia, inventor N.T.E. Dillon grew tired of the limitations of traditional gas welding torches. Standard torches radiated too much residual heat, warped thin metal sheets, and made welding difficult materials like aluminum and cast iron a nightmare of precision work.

Dillon decided to completely rewrite the rules. After 11 years of intensive research and development, the torch was officially introduced to the market in the early 1980s. The result was a global sensation.

The Unique Low-Pressure Technology is Born
The core of Dillon's invention was turning the way gases are mixed completely upside down. Instead of the high working pressures the industry was used to, Dillon designed a completely unique mixing chamber. This allowed the torch to operate at an extremely low and completely equal working pressure for both oxygen and acetylene – of just 0.5 bar (4 psi).

This technical innovation changed everything:

  • Less gas: The torch consumed significantly less gas than conventional systems.
  • Concentrated flame: The soft, clean, and extremely focused flame reduced heat dissipation to a minimum.
  • Chemical protection: The flame created a naturally protective atmosphere over the weld pool, preventing oxidation and suddenly making it possible to weld without flux in unique applications.

This is where our own journey began. We at Nordisk Industrirobot Scandria AB (often just called Scandria AB in everyday language) immediately realized the massive potential of N.T.E. Dillon's Australian invention. We saw a pressing need in the Nordic market for a tool that could handle extreme precision without heavy, stationary machinery.

Already in 1982, Scandria AB started selling the Dillon welding torch in Sweden and the Nordic countries. When we introduced this unique system, it was initially met with some skepticism from traditional welders used to old high-pressure torches. But the very second they saw Dillon's ability to smoothly join 1 mm thin aluminum or perform structural repairs on cracked cast iron, doubt turned into pure enthusiasm. Since 1982, Scandria AB has been the proud, driving force behind the brand in the region – and for more than four decades, we have supplied everyone from passionate vintage car restorers to heavy industrial workshops with this indispensable precision tool.

A Timeless Icon in the Workshop
Gas welding is a century-old technique, but Dillon managed to make it timeless. In a modern workshop where TIG and MIG welders often dominate, Dillon still stands in a class of its own.
