Welding Tip No. 3 – The Powerhouse and Your Guide to the Correct Pressure
Our high-performance welding tip No. 3 is the largest in the standard series and the ultimate tool for the most heat-intensive jobs. But it also has another vital function: it is the tip you use to visually calibrate the correct working pressure for your entire equipment.
Since many regulators (especially for oxygen) can be difficult to read accurately at pressures as low as 0.5 bar, No. 3 is used to visually set the system pressure. Once you have calibrated the pressure according to the guide below, you do not need to touch the regulators again – you will then have the perfect working pressure for all welding tips in the series.
Just like our entire range, No. 3 has a long lifespan thanks to the high-grade copper alloy which dissipates extreme heat and protects the tip's precision year after year, even during intensive heating.

How to set the correct working pressure using No. 3:
Use this method with welding tip No. 3 mounted to ensure you get exactly 0.5 bar working pressure delivered to the torch.
1. Adjust Acetylene Pressure (Coarse Adjustment)
- Open the acetylene valve knob on the torch handle completely.
- Adjust the regulator until the flame just stops smoking and burns with a clean, powerful flame.
2. Fine-tune Acetylene Pressure (Find the flame stability point)
- If the flame "lifts off" the tip (a gap appears between the flame and the tip), slowly reduce the pressure on the regulator.
- Stop adjusting just as the flame jumps back and re-seats stable at the tip edge. Now you have the perfect acetylene pressure.
3. Adjust Oxygen Pressure
- Open the oxygen knob on the torch handle completely.
- Adjust the oxygen regulator until you get a neutral flame (a flame with a clear, sharp inner cone without any "acetylene feathers" or flicker).
Result: Your equipment is now perfectly calibrated. When you switch to smaller welding tips (such as No. 0 or No. 1), you will never need to touch the regulators again – you control all flame adjustments directly with the knobs on the torch handle.
